Slytherin Common Room Ideas

Let’s admit it, Slytherin common room is truly inspiring, imposing, and gorgeous. It is also very large and features an immensely high ceiling and impressive architectural details. The replica may not work for every space, but if you do have a good size room to work with, I would recommend getting a few big pieces while keeping the clutter away to create an impression of a large space.

How to Create a Slytherin Room without Painting the Walls Green

Most Slytherin aesthetic image have green painted walls. But you can achieve the same effect if you can’t or don’t want to paint the walls.

Surprisingly, you may stay more authentic to the book and the movies with neutral walls because the Slytherin common room did not feature green walls. The effect was achieved through a strategic placement of green accessories and blue-green light.

Gryffindor is the favorite among Hogwarts houses, but recreating an authentic Gryffindor space is easier said than done. You can sprinkle images of Harry and the Gryffindor Crest a few times, but it won’t get the depth and the all-around look of Gryffindor.

Based on my own experience creating a Harry Potter themed space, here is my advice on which Gryffindor accessories will bring the theme to life in an authentic way.

Harry Potter Themed Room

I wanted to replicate the same feeling of old-time magic you get from the movie sets and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando. While there is a lot of branded Harry Potter merchandise for sale at retailers, most of my decor choices were original vintage and antique finds that came with authenticity and a low price tag.

Budget-Friendly Harry Potter Themed Room

Budget Room

Very few of us have a castle-size budget for our desired Hogwarts-themed room. However, creating an amazing and authentic Harry Potter themed room can be cheaper than you think. The trick is to shop for used furniture and accessories.

Vintage, antique, and simply used items are perfect for this project because the decor of the movies was based on the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the traditional style of the time is not currently popular. The resale market for stuffy furnishings is soft, and you should use it to your advantage.

Visitors to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando remember the iconic Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom in the Hogwarts Castle waiting queue for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction. That’s where Ron, Harry, and Hermione appear on the balcony and talk to the visitors about getting a tour of the castle.

This classroom features multiple depictions of animals that are associated with venoms and magical uses as part of its spooky school vibe. Now, you can create your own version of these props with a DIY Harry Potter-inspired art project.
